Late to the party… Dark Matter by Blake Crouch #bookreview

In regards to Dark Matter by Blake Crouch I was quite late to the party, even despite Dark Matter being on my radar when it first came out (way back in 2016 – according to Goodreads).

Thanks to my enjoyment of the Dark Pines TV series (another series of books I have yet to get too) Dark Matter was promptly bought by me and then got lost in my forever growing TBR pile. Ashamedly it may have stayed buried in there for years had I not been flicking through my books in search of something when the cover caught my eye.

I will say, for the record, that I don’t judge a book by just the cover but I do appreciate some nice cover art. And something a little different.

ANYWAY

Dark Matter started off as an ok read. I could have easily kept on reading or just put it to the side during the first few chapters, then all of a sudden it started to get good, it got very good.

I was hooked.

It got to the stage where I didn’t want to put the book down because I wanted to know where the story was going and what would happen to the main characters. ! And I LOVE that feeling of needing to know what is going to happen while reading a book. Don’t you?

I loved the big twist and I loved the exploration… I do want to say more. Lots more. But I won’t for fear of spoilers. Knowing the author I shouldn’t have been surprised by the direction of the book and I loved the sci-fi twisty nature of it.

It’s one of those books that I really need my friends to all to read so we can talk about it.

Definitely worth a read if you are in the mood for a slightly different type of thriller.

Have you read it?

—————–

Book Blurb – “Are you happy with your life?”

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious.

Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.

Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.
