A quiet place #Film

So late to the party seems to be a rather common theme to many of my blog posts and once again I am going to start with…

So, I have only now gotten around to watching – A quiet place.

It is a good film!

The best make you jump, sit on the edge of your seat, type of film that I’ve seen in a while.

And for a film with very little talking, I was impressed.

It was intense.

It was creepy.

It was emotional – at points it made my heart hurt.

I couldn’t look away.

As for a very basic story outline – The film is essentially about a mum and dad who are desperately trying to find a way to keep their kids safe in a farmhouse surrounded by monsters that attack and kill if they hear the slightest sound. So everyone needs to be quiet – all of the time. It’s what I probably think of as survival horror.

I very much suggest you go and watch the trailer… or actually, just go and watch the film.

A world without words or sound – hard to picture in my very noisy daily life!

All the acting was impressive, and Emily Blunt was her usual fantastic self. I am not ashamed to say that I’m becoming, even more, of a fan of Emily Blunt the more I watch her in things. She is very talented.

But.

The film lacked a LOT of substance. You don’t get any information on the monsters, you don’t really get any information on the world, you don’t get any information on the characters and how they have survived as the world around them seems to have gone extinct. It’s very much a snapshot of the story.

But then I just wanted to be entertained for an evening and A quiet place did that.

I just can’t help but think it would have been so much better as a book. I like the in-depth stuff, the world building, the character backstories. But then I always think that.

And. I. Did. Not. Like. The. Ending.

It was very much a stop in mid-stride cliffhanger. It ruined the whole film a bit for me, I prefer to know! A part of me also felt like the film only really got started just as it finished. I wasn’t ready for the end, I wasn’t expecting it. It just felt like an odd place for the film to stop.

However, even with the criticisms I had I still enjoyed the film as a whole. It was very watchable.
