I didn’t read Nine perfect strangers by Liane Moriarty, but I listened to the Audible audio-book version narrated by Caroline Lee.

I love audio books. Love them.

How did anyone ever get the motivation to clean the house before Audible?

My kitchen is a nicer place thanks largely to my Audible subscription.

At 19 hours this was a substantial listen and took me just over a month, which is a bit longer than it would normally take me to get through an audio-book. I found Nine perfect strangers by Liane Moriarty very easy to put down/stop listening to. A statement that makes me sad.

I love Liane Moriarty – I’m a big fan. I absolutely loved Big little lies, both the book and the TV series. I loved The husband’s secret. I loved What Alice Forgot. And I adored The Hypnotist’s love story.

But I thought that Nine perfect strangers was only just OK.

The writing as always with Liane Moriarty was impeccable, well-paced and articulate. I just didn’t connect with the characters and I found myself not caring about where the story was going. I hate to say it, but I was a bit bored.

Nine perfect strangers by Liane Moriarty was ALL about the different characters and I did love some of the them. There was a lot of them, I think 11 main-ish characters(?) and their stories were interesting. And I’m sure if I thought about it a bit more Liane Moriarty used their experiences to write about important topics in self care, grief, retirement and a whole range of family dynamics. Important topics.

The big cast of characters is something that Liane Moriarty does well. Very well.

And she also wrote a pretty good Bond villain – I know it sounds a bit weird, but I am sure that Masha would have given Bond, James Bond a run for his money if he ever visited her Spa.

This wasn’t a bad book. It just wasn’t for me. I have read a few varying reviews about it, some people love it some people find it just ok.

It’s a rather mixed review from me. I loved the writing, the in-depth characterisation, but something about the whole combined plot and characters just didn’t quite bump it up to a great read for me.

Good. I thought the story was good. The narration was great.

I can’t wait for Liane Moriarty’s next release (whatever that may be) and I am glad I still have a few of her previous books still to read.
