Keep you close by Karen Cleveland #blogtour #ProvidedForReview #RandomThingsTours @annecater #KeepYouClose @karecleve @TransworldBooks

You might have noticed (but probably not) that I haven’t been around much over June. I needed a break. I was tired of blogging. I was falling behind on reviews and each time I sat down to write a post I lost all inspiration and interest.

So, I had a wee break and just read. I read lots compared to recent weeks. And I read in the glorious Scottish sunshine while watching my child play in the background. Bliss. It was exactly what I needed.

Ignore my pjs. Yes, we had our breakfast outside and just relaxed in the morning sun. And I am lucky enough to have a hammock. I’m a total hammock convert, it is now my favourite place to read. And in my comfy, very comfy hammock I needed a great book to keep me company. And I got that in the form of – Keep you close by Karen Cleveland.

I can be a bit of a mood reader and I was completely in the mood for an action packed story, with a complex and layered character who I loved and lots and lots of cliff-hanger ending chapters. I am discovering that I really like a book with short snappy chapters.

The writing was good, the setting was fine (I would love to visit Washington) but I really got engrossed following all the twists and turns as the main character tried to figure out what was going. I had no idea where the story was going. It had me hooked. It was my type of book. Never a dull moment – is a turn of phrase that comes to mind when I think about the book.

Keep you close by Karen Cleveland was easy to read and hard to put down.

And I loved the ending, I loved that final little, not quite twist but a glimpse into a possible next book or just discussion point. It is a book I will be recommending.

It was a clever read. It was also a surprisingly emotional read. I nearly cried when… SPOILERS! But it was a tad sad. The book packed in a lot of plot and characterisation. It was in my opinion a rather fantastic novel.

Also check out the author bio below – after I read a bit more about Karen Cleveland I was left wondering if she had followed the cliched advice of ‘write what you know’. I am sure I will be reading more of her books in the future.

A big thank you to Anne and the publisher for providing me with a copy of Keep you Close by Karen Cleveland to read. I’m looking forward to reading more reviews and content as the blog tour continues.

Have you read it?

Book Blurb:

Keep You Close is the hotly anticipated new thriller

from the bestselling author of Need to Know.

A strange sensation runs through me, a feeling that I don’t know this person in front of me, even though he matters more to me than anyone ever has, than anyone ever will.

You go into your son’s bedroom. It’s the usual mess. You tidy up some dirty plates, pick up some clothes, open the wardrobe to put them away.

And that’s when you find it. Something so shocking it doesn’t seem real.

And you realize a horrifying truth…

Your own son might be dangerous…

About the author:

Karen Cleveland spent eight years as a CIA analyst, focusing on counterterrorism and working briefly on rotation to the FBI. She has master’s degrees from Trinity College Dublin and Harvard University. She lives in northern Virginia with her husband and two young sons.

    1. I’m glad I’m not the only one! 😀 It’s nice to just read without any pressure on choice or rush to write a review. I still love blogging, I just needed a couple of weeks off!
