Happy publication day on Thursday!!!

Book Blurb:

It can be hard keeping secrets in a tight-knit neighbourhood.

In a tranquil, leafy suburb of ordinary streets – one where everyone is polite and friendly – an anonymous note has been left at some of the houses.

I’m so sorry. My son has been getting into people’s houses. He’s broken into yours.

Who is this boy, and what might he have uncovered? As whispers start to circulate, suspicion mounts.

And when a missing local woman is found murdered, the tension reaches breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they’re telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their secrets?

Maybe you don’t know your neighbour as well as you thought you did . . .

After reading and being caught up in the mystery of The couple next door by Shari Lapena last year, I was delighted to be approved by the publisher via NetGalley for an eARC of her latest book – Someone we know. Delighted! Thank you.

Someone we know by Shari Lapena was good. So very good. A solid novel. It delivered exactly what I thought it would – a decent domestic thriller that kept me turning the pages.

Someone we know by Shari Lapena didn’t do anything original, it didn’t have any standout characters or unusual settings or twists, but all the elements came together to make a good read. I was entertained and often that is all I want from a book – to be entertained. Who doesn’t want to be absorbed in a good read?

Someone we know has a big cast of characters and it did take me a few chapters to get to grips with the various POVs and who was who. And who was married to who. And who was in love with who. This was a big soap opera of a story. There was a lot going on during the novel, a lot of secrets, a lot of lies and a lot of secrets to hide. Entertaining.

I thought the ending was great. I did have a good guess at it, but it was still very satisfying. It wasn’t a massive twist, but it was the sort of ending that was connected to the story and characters – it was the type of ending I prefer to a big twist that tries too hard and feels like it comes out of nowhere.

In a month or so I probably won’t remember many of the details about the book. Someone we know was good, it just didn’t have any stand out features – not a criticism. It’s a great example of why I keep on picking up domestic drama/thrillers one after the other. I was entertained.

I have since finishing Someone we know went and purchased The unwanted guest. I’m sure Shari Lapena is going to be an author I watch out for.

I would be very surprised if the book didn’t do well, it delivered a great read. It was good. I absolutely recommend it.

Someone we know by Shari Lapena will be published on the 25th July 2019.
