I was in a bit of reading slump all through December – because, well, December is just SO busy! And although my reading usually does come to a bit of a halt EVERY December I couldn’t find my mojo even after Christmas had passed.

I was stuck.

I was watching TV. Lots of TV. And although that isn’t a problem. I’m now several seasons into Supernatural – the Winchester’s rock, right!?!? Watching TV and not reading just isn’t me.

I was missing that feeling of a book that grabs you so hard you can’t put it down. And that was what I found when I started reading The Guest List towards the end of January.

I read.

And I read.

And then I read some more.

The Guest List was good. Really. Very. Good.

I even set an alarm on my Alexa 10 minutes before the school run because I couldn’t put the book down. I was that engrossed I could have forgotten my child. Not really – I promise! But I could have been the last mum to arrive to the playground!

The Guest list by Lucy Foley dragged me out of a reading slump – Do I really need to say more?

I am not going anywhere near the plot of The Guest List for fear of spoilers. So have a read of the blurb for yourself, if you haven’t already.

And it was. I genuinely never guessed any of the twists and turns, of which there are many. The ending was a whirlwind.

I know I am repeating myself – but it was a great read right from the beginning…

The lights go out.

In an instant, everything is in darkness. The band stop their playing. Inside the marquee the wedding guests squeal and clutch at one another. The light from the candles on the tables only adds to the confusion, sends shadows racing up the canvas walls. It’s impossible to see where anyone is or hear what anyone is saying: above the guests’ voices the wind rises in a frenzy.

Outside a storm is raging.

I liked everything about the book.

The writing was superb. The characters all had a unique voice – and I loved the alternating POV chapters between the main characters. The twists and turns were unexpected, but fitted the story so well. The plot read smoothly. And the remote, dark and very beautiful setting was atmospheric.

I can imagine that The Guest List will be featuring in many, many Top books of 2020 blog posts later in the year. It was entertaining from start to finish.

I will be and have been recommending The Guest List to everyone. EVERYONE.

And I can’t believe I haven’t read any of Lucy Foley’s other books! Something I plan on fixing soon. Very soon. I already have The hunting party sitting waiting for me on my kindle. Have you read The Hunting Party? Am I in for another wild, interesting and twisty read?
