#MINIREVIEWS: #WhenLifeGivesYouLemons by the wonderful @FionaGibson @AvonBooksUK #FunRead #250WordsOrLess #ProvidedForReview #gifted

I have been a fan of Fiona Gibson for years. Years! She has the knack of writing great characters, usually mums that I care about. Characters that I get invested in. And when I first saw the beautiful, bright and fun cover of When life give you Lemons I knew I would be in for a treat.

BOOK BLURB:

The hilarious, heartwarming Sunday Times bestseller is back!

Sometimes life can be bittersweet…

Between tending to the whims of her seven-year-old and the demands of her boss, Viv barely gets a moment to herself. It’s not quite the life she wanted, but she hasn’t run screaming for the hills yet.

But then Viv’s husband Andy makes his mid-life crisis her problem. He’s having an affair with his (infuriatingly age-appropriate) colleague, a woman who – unlike Viv – doesn’t put on weight when she so much as glances at a cream cake.

Viv suddenly finds herself single, with zero desire to mingle. Should she be mourning the end of life as she knows it, or could this be the perfect chance to put herself first?

When life gives you lemons, lemonade just won’t cut it. Bring on the gin!

Mini Review (250 words) –

Viv is a 50+ mother to a young daughter and older son with an unpleasant husband. And I absolutely hate to admit it, but I struggled with the first few chapters โ€“ probably the first 15% of the book. Viv was a doormat. And I was horribly worried that she was going to want him back after his affair.

But!

I kept reading and trusted in Fiona Gibson to steer us in the right direction and she did. Viv took strength in friendships, protected her daughter and son and even found a spark with someone else. She had the strength to start again. She was no longer putting everyone else above herself.

It was an uplifting read.

The book reminds you how amazing women of all ages can be and how we all need to stand on a table sometimes and shout about our brilliance โ€“ One of my favourite moments from the book.

When life gives you lemons was a fun, entertaining and easy read and I very much enjoyed spending time with Viv, Penny, Nick and the very lovely Izzy.

Fiona Gibson is a great writer, but it is her characters more than her stories that always stand out for me. Within the womenโ€™s fiction/Rom Com (I HATE the term chick lit) genre, a lot of the story arcs can be similar. It really is the characters that make a novel special. I have been pre-ordering Fiona Gibsonโ€™s books for years and I have no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Very Mini Review (10 Words) –

A fun, uplifting and entertaining read with some amazing characters.

When Life gives you lemons by Fiona Gibson was published on the 5th March 2020. I received a copy for review from the publisher, via NetGalley โ€“ Thank you.

Have you read it? Are you a fan of Fiona Gibson?
