The only trope I can think of that I really, REALLY dislike (probably not hate thou) is insta-love or love at first sight. I very much dislike characters just meeting and falling head over heels, into a life changing love. I adore my husband but I didn’t love him at first sight (sorry hubby – I thought you were cute and funny thou :)). But there are exceptions! Of course there are – I did fall hard and completely in love with my dog when we went to pick him. He was in a litter of puppies, he came straight over to me and our eyes met, his little wet nose touched mine and I knew I was in love. He’s my puppy soulmate and I knew it from day 1. And 9 years later it’s still love.
Also before anyone thinks I love my dog more than my husband and daughter I don’t – I love them all. I’m very lucky. My husband I just didn’t love on first sight and I didn’t need to see my daughter – I loved her completely from the moment I knew she was part of me.
ANYWAY.
I don’t tend to like Insta-love in books. I like a build up, I like the get to know you part of the relationship and I want all the tingly feelings. Love needs to be worked at.
If you have a book with an insta-love relationship you think is AMAZING then please let me know!?! My mind can always be changed? Maybe?? Possible!?
So one. I have one Trope I don’t care for!
I can think of a few others that I am not always in the mood for – love trianges, special/hidden talents and they don’t know it, AKA – the ONE! But really tropes are tropes for a reason because they work – not all the time but they do.
I’m looking forward to reading everyone’s posts and having a few moments where I think ‘of course!‘ and ‘how did I not think of that one!‘
So what Trope or Tropes do you not enjoy?
Six for Sunday is hosted over at the wonderful A Little But a Lot blog.
Your dog is adorable!!!!!
I don’t like love triangles, they make me roll my eyes!

I usually think the same about love triangles but I recently read a book all about a love triangle -The Love Square by Laura Jame Williams and I loved it š š š

I loved it, it was such a cute, fun and easy read and I was totally in the mood for it – I have my review scheduled for next week. I did have a few eye roll moments thou when I wanted to shake the main character but I loved it š I would recommend it, but if you’re like me pick it up when you want something lighter.

I despise affairs with bestfriends, it’s boring and happens too often in books and films too! It’s enough to make me DNF, especially if it’s near the beginning of a book! Love your doggo xx

Me too! That’s another one for my list – I’ve DNF a book for that before too, I’m just not interested.

Oh, that pooch is adorable! Is he part Bichon?
My most hated two tropes are cheating (#1) and love triangles, a very, very close #2. If Iām honest, theyāre probably tiedš Insta-love doesnāt bother me, if done right. I see a lot of that in the romantic suspense genre as that old saying about relationships stemming from extreme emotions brought about by excitement and trauma are expected. When itās done wrong, however, it weakens the entire romance.
Wonderful postš

Thank you, I can see your point about the romantic suspense genre – not a genre that I read too much of, but I do quite like Karen Rose and her books could fall into that category.
I dislike cheating in books too!
He is all poodle – he’s just a total scruff. My mum has a Bichon thou and they do look very similar š

Most of the romances in Karen Roseās books are insta-love (shes a great example of the genre!).

Yes, I’m not a massive fan of love triangles myself but I left that one off because I recently read The Love square which is essentially a love traingle trope and I loved it š š
