Dark, addictive and disturbing #BLOGTOUR for Written in blood by Chris Carter #WrittenInBlood #Horror @simonschusterUK @RandomTTours

Welcome to my stop on day 2 of the #BlogTour for the OH-SO GOOD, SO VERY GOOD Written in blood by Chris Carter.

I’ve been a HUGE fan of Chris Carter ever since I read The Crucifix Killer – the first book in the Robert Hunter series ( years ago!) and I haven’t been disappointed once in eleven books. Not once!

He is one of my favourite, auto-buy writers because he never fails to deliver a dark, sinister and addictive read that I can’t put down.

Have a look at the blurb and cover – sounds great and looks great, right!?!?!

BOOK BLURB:

FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE SUNDAY TIMES NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER HUNTING EVIL COMES THE NEXT COMPULSIVE THRILLER IN THE ROBERT HUNTER SERIES

A serial killer will stop at nothing…

The Killer
His most valuable possession has been stolen.
Now he must retrieve it, at any cost.

The Girl
Angela Wood wanted to teach the man a lesson. It was a bag, just like all the others.
But when she opens it, the worst nightmare of her life begins.

The Detective
A journal ends up at Robert Hunter’s desk. It soon becomes clear that there is a serial killer on the loose. And if he can’t stop him in time, more people will die.

If you have read it
You must die

Written in blood is book 11 in the series (ELEVEN!!!) and I honestly think that each book gets stronger and better than the last. But if you haven’t read any of his previous books then a warning – these are more like horror than thrillers. The books he writes, Written in blood included are not for the squeamish and Chris Carter doesn’t step back from terrifying his reader. At points they can be a bit much for me. It’s a book that needs to be read in the bright sunshine or with the lights on! Or maybe read squinting through your fingers but definitely with all the doors locked.

You could undoubtedly read Written in blood as a standalone but you would miss out on a lot of the background character development of Robert and Garcia. Two of my favourite detectives – EVER. For example, I loved and was sad for the moments with Robert and Tracy – I will say no more but it was just a small detail that had me glued to the page. If you’ve read it you will know what I mean – if not then sorry for being cryptic.

Dark. Gruesome. Complex. Smart.

And jam-packed with twists I didn’t guess.

Chris Carter has a way with words, he is now on book 11 and I still love the series so it’s safe to say it is well written, well-paced and has some awesome characters. I love the short and snappy chapters and somehow Chris Carter manages to creates a sense of urgency with each chapter ending that keeps me reading even when I really should have put the book down. Who doesn’t like a cliff-hanger? And Chris Carter works hard to end most chapters with a small cliff-hanger that has me desperate to read on. In other words it’s a great read. And one I highly recommend.

I cannot wait for the next book – I hope the series continues for years to come!

Have you read the series so far? Do you have a favourite Robert Hunter book?
