#BLOGTOUR: The one that got away by Egan Hughes #Gifted #ProvidedForReview #TheOneThatGotAway @Egan_Hughes #CompulsiveReaders

Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for The one that got away by Egan Hughes.

I won’t leave you in suspense. I really enjoyed it.

Book Blurb:

Mia thinks she has escaped her controlling ex-husband, Rob. She’s found herself a new home, a new boyfriend and a new life.

But when the police arrive to tell her that Rob has been found dead on his boat, things quickly fall apart. Mia is terrified she’ll be suspected, however the police are keeping all options open. They know Mia had reason to hate her ex-husband, but she’s not the only one. Plenty of people wanted Rob Creavy dead, not least his new wife, Rachel.

What they don’t know is that Mia has a secret, one she’s desperate to protect.

But someone else knows. Someone with very dark secrets of their own . . .

A claustrophobic, twisty psychological thriller about love, trauma and revenge – perfect for fans of, THE HOLIDAYSOMETHING IN THE WATER and THE WOMAN IN CABIN TEN.

Great blurb, right!?!?!

As I said – I really enjoyed it.

The one that got away was a slow burn, character driven novel with a smart plot and some gorgeous locations. I loved it.

The book was well written and well-paced with a dual timeline and various POVs that changed from chapter to chapter, I loved both of the main characters. I was scared and worried for Jess as she went on a trip of a lifetime (a sailboat trip from England to Greece) as the whole trip had very sinister undertones and the threat of potential violence. I also loved Mia, her strength and determination in clawing back some of her life after her whole world was turned upside down. Great characters. Characters I rooted for even if they were murder suspects. I think Egan Hughes did an amazing job at characterisation.

The ending was good, but I loved the slow burn set up of the story the most. And yes there were a few twists throughout the well crafted plot – And at least one earlier on that I just did not see coming! Have you read it? Do you know the one I mean?!?!?!

The one that got away was not a fast paced book, the story meanders along as we get to discover more of the characters lives and loves and follow their journeys. I thought Egan Hughes did a great job at holding my interest and kept me turning the pages. It is a great example of the type of psychological thriller I enjoy.

Clever writing. A smart plot. And memorable characters.

I will be eagerly awaiting whatever Egan Hughes writes next!

Have you read it? Do you want to? Do you love a slow burn character driven plot?

I received a copy of The one that got away by Egan Hughes for review from the publisher, which was arranged by the blog tour organiser – Thank you!
