I was delighted to be invited onto the #blogtour for Diabolica Britannica because ONE I am always looking for some new horror authors and TWO the anthology has been done as a fundraiser. Horror and a good cause – who could possible resist?

Within the creepy, scary and dark pages of Diabolica Britannica are 14 horror stories – some I loved and most I liked. I didn’t read them in any sort of order so I am not going to even attempt to rank them and also reading horror is so subjective. I love the genre, but I prefer the creepy and sinister over the gory and bloody, which I am sure is the total opposite to others.
Anyway… There was a great mix to be found and I was completely drawn in by a lot of the stories and writing. I never read enough short stories and I LOVE them. I love how a whole story can be constructed and delivered in so few words and pages. I MUST read more!
For me one of the absolute gems of the anthology had to be the very first story Carreg Samson by Catherine McCarthy – she had a real way with description and her prose was beautiful in places. I will absolutely be on the hunt for some more books by her.
I also thought that Footsteps by Janine Pipe and The Flow by Tim Lebbon stood out. But it’s safe to say that I don’t think there was a terrible story in the bunch.
My one recommendation is read them with the LIGHTS ON!
The anthology was a lot of fun (if you like that sort of thing and I do) AND it was all for a good cause! As the blurb mentioned all the proceeds raised are headed to help support the amazing job the NHS has been doing and is still doing during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I thought that Diabolica Britannica was British short horror at it’s best.
