Welcome to my stop on the #BlogTour for the #HORROR short story collection #DiabolicaBritannica #InsidiousBookTours

I was delighted to be invited onto the #blogtour for Diabolica Britannica because ONE I am always looking for some new horror authors and TWO the anthology has been done as a fundraiser. Horror and a good cause – who could possible resist?

Book Burb:

Diabolica Britannica is a collection of 14 dark tales from the dark isles. It features contributions from the following authors: Adam L G Nevill, Tim Lebbon, Keith Anthony Baird, John F Leonard, Morgan K Tanner, Arthur M Harper, Christopher Henderson, Beverley Lee, Sarah E England, Catherine McCarthy, Stephanie Ellis, Janine Pipe, Sarah J Budd and Alyson Faye.

Genre legend Ramsey Campbell contributes with an insightful foreword and puts his stamp on another addition to British horror’s legacy. All for a good cause, the profits from this anthology will go to fund the NHS’ efforts in COVID-19 research.

So explore every corner of this compendium and be pulled into the shadowy depths of the dark isles.

Within the creepy, scary and dark pages of Diabolica Britannica are 14 horror stories – some I loved and most I liked. I didn’t read them in any sort of order so I am not going to even attempt to rank them and also reading horror is so subjective. I love the genre, but I prefer the creepy and sinister over the gory and bloody, which I am sure is the total opposite to others.

Anyway… There was a great mix to be found and I was completely drawn in by a lot of the stories and writing. I never read enough short stories and I LOVE them. I love how a whole story can be constructed and delivered in so few words and pages. I MUST read more!

For me one of the absolute gems of the anthology had to be the very first story Carreg Samson by Catherine McCarthy – she had a real way with description and her prose was beautiful in places. I will absolutely be on the hunt for some more books by her.

I also thought that Footsteps by Janine Pipe and The Flow by Tim Lebbon stood out. But it’s safe to say that I don’t think there was a terrible story in the bunch.

My one recommendation is read them with the LIGHTS ON!

The anthology was a lot of fun (if you like that sort of thing and I do) AND it was all for a good cause! As the blurb mentioned all the proceeds raised are headed to help support the amazing job the NHS has been doing and is still doing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I thought that Diabolica Britannica was British short horror at it’s best.

A BIG thank you to Insidious Book Tours for inviting my along for the ride and providing me with a copy of Diabolica Britannica. I also bought a copy as well!

Well done to everyone involved I hope it turns out to be a huge success.
