#BlogTour: The secret diary of a new mum (Aged 43 1/4) by Cari Rosen #ProvidedForReview @RandomTTours @Cazroz @Duckbooks #SecretDiaryOfANewMum

I went through a phase in my own pregnancy where I couldn’t get enough of pregnancy books, I was fascinated by other people’s journeys, especially, the non-fiction tales. So when I received the invitation for Cari Rosen’s blog tour I jumped at the chance to read something I haven’t delved into for years.

Whatever your age, becoming a mum for the first time b rings excitement, anxiety and numerous challenges…

But how do you cope when you discover you’re old enough to be the mother of everyone in your NCT group? The story of one woman, one baby, a slipped disc and rather too many wrinkles, The Secret Diary of a New Mum (Aged 43 1/4) follows the tale of a midlife mum as she tries to make the transition from experienced TV producer to utterly inexperienced parent.

Whether deftly side-stepping questions about age and baby number two, or weeping as younger counterparts ping back into their size ten jeans within thirty seconds of giving birth, Cari approaches the shared experiences of an ever-increasing number of mothers with insight, humour and honesty.

Plus, the cover and title both jumped out at me.

When I sat down to read the book I kept on having the feeling de ja vu…had I read this before? And yes, I think I have – it wasn’t until I was over on Goodreads that I noticed it was originally published in 2011. So, I think it was on my bedside table about 8/9 years ago. But even thou it turned out to be a re-reading for me and I still enjoyed every page of Cari Rosen’s fun, funny, but sometimes serious account of pregnancy and her early years as a new mum.

It was well written, well organised and it moved along at such a fast pace that there was never a dull moment. Each chapter gives you a snapshot into some of the moments Cari Rosen experienced during her pregnancy as well as the baby’s early stages, 0-3 months, 3 -6 months, etc, up until the terrible twos. It’s not an in-depth look at being a new parent but instead a funny, candid and easy to read memoir. It’s like sitting down to tell some of the funnier aspects of being a parent with a friend. I flew through the pages and although my lovely little wee person is now that bit older I loved being reminded of the mess and madness of those early days. It was entertaining from start to finish and I could relate to a lot of it.

The secret diary of a new mum (aged 43 1/4) by Cari Rosen was a touching, candid, funny and easy to read memoir, one I would certainly recommend.

I received a copy of the book for review from the publisher, which was all arranged by the blog tour organiser – Thank you!
