Hello. And welcome to my stop on the blog tour for the psychological thriller Guilty by Sadie Ryan – First off, a big thank you to #ZooLoosBookTours for arranging a review copy of the book for me to read and review. Thank you!

I knew as soon as I read the synopsis it was a book I wanted to get my hands on – I absolutely love a good a thriller. Who doesn’t!?!? #FavouriteGenre

Lindy once had the world at her feet. An adoring husband, two beautiful daughters and a successful career.

In a split second, a tragic accident causes Lindy’s world to come crashing down around her.

Mia, a personal fitness trainer and glamorous wife of a local tv personality seems to have everything.

Slowly Lindy learns more about Mia’s β€˜perfect’ life and becomes convinced that they are each other’s saviours.   As obsessions grow and the lines that shape reality become blurred, Lindy’s and Mia’s lives are now forever dangerously intertwined as personalities merge.

This was my first book review in what feels like forever…but more about my wee blogging break another day. I feel book review rusty – so bear with me.

I thought Guilty by Sadie Ryan was good.

It started with an immediate bang and I got dragged along at a rather nice thrillerlike pace. It did take me a wee moment or two to get settled into the writing style – which wasn’t bad! It wasn’t even close to bad, it was good. It was just a bit flowy and maybe fell slightly into purple prose territory here and there, or at least until Sadie Ryan found her footing or until I got engrossed in the lives of the characters and no longer noticed. There was quite a lot of telling rather than showing in places, but then that’s not always something I don’t like.

I could be more concise myself and just sum the writing up as wordy – but I like wordy. I think I’m wordy. Wordy is no big criticism coming from me.

Anyway – as I said, I’m a tad review rusty…

I enjoyed the alternate POV chapters, the pacing seemed spot on and I easily flew through the chapters and pages. It was a solid read. I didn’t like it as much as some of the other reviews I’ve read on the tour, but it was a decent thriller. A book I would recommend.

I quite like (actually I love) a dislikeable, unreliable narrator and I disliked (more or less) both of the main characters – Lindy and Mia, but for different and interesting reasons. I was entertained. And really that is all I ever want in a thriller, I want to be kept guessing and hooked to the page.

Guilty by Sadie Ryan was a good, fast and easy read. At times dark. Addictive…? I certainly didn’t want to look away. It wasn’t the book I expected to get and I LOVE when that happens.

Guilty was my first book from Sadie Ryan, but I doubt it will be my last.

Let me know if it sounds like a book you want weighing down you TBR pile?!?!

And thank you for reading – I have hardly written any words in months! And it shows… I must be better book blogger in the future… or at least a more consistent one!

Sadie Ryan is the author of three books. Her latest, Guilty came out in April 2021, a psychological thriller. She loves animals and lives in leafy Cheshire in the North West of England with her daughter and rescue dog. When not writing she spends her time reading, gardening, walking her dog or watching old black and white movies.

When asked where she gets her ideas from, she says, β€˜From observation, inspiration and lots of wicked thoughts.’

    1. Thank you, Nicki – I didn’t realise how much I’ve missed my wee blog and reading others until I opened my laptop yesterday. I think that’s me back now. I’ve just been a little unwell and had some real life things that have been occupying me. I hope your keeping well too xx
