I’m finally reviewing a book that I BOUGHT! One less book on my never ending TBR pile – I have a tendency to read but not review the books I buy, but I am going to try and change that… maybe change that – time allowing!
It can’t just be me! Does anyone else neglect their own bookshelves? In real life I’ve been recommending this book to pretty much all my friends. So here I am recommending it to you… feel free to stop reading my post and start reading Such a fun age immediately :).
Anyway.
Such a fun age by Kiley Reid was a great read. GREAT READ. A 5 star read. I read it all in just 2 sittings, as I couldn’t put it down. I didn’t want to put it down. And I was delighted to see it pop up in the Booker Prize longlist for 2020. In my humble opinion Kiley Reid was ROBBED.
And #CoverLOVE! But the rather cute cover doesn’t adequately convey the bite and substance of the book. It’s deceptively deceiving, still a great design thou. It just makes the book look like it’s going to be a lighter read than it was.

Such a fun age by Kiley Reid was such a relevant book for 2020 and of course anytime after, it was a story that didn’t shy away from demonstrating the day-to-day racism that occurs everywhere.
Kiley Reid has written a brilliant, smart and witty tale that deals with relationships, race, economic hardships and white privilege.
Such a fun age packs a punch. But IMPORTANTLY Kiley Reid has written an absolutely entertaining read. I was hooked from page one and the plot doesn’t let the pace slide as we follow Emira and Alix’s story. I both loved and hated and felt fully invested in all of the characters. For me, it was the characters that elevated the book to a GREAT read and Kiley Reid showed real skill in making sure that none of them slipped into one-dimensional stereotypes. The book was filled with nuanced, complex, flawed and oh so interesting characters. It was a clever story with great writing, the type of writing that appears effortlessly but is definitely not.
The writing was great. The pacing was spot on. And the lives of Emira and Alix made for a compelling, compelling read.
I am sure I will be watching a TV series based on Such a fun age within the next couple of years – I am positive it would make a great TV adaptation. I think because I’ve not long watched Big Little Lies I couldn’t help but picture Reece Weatherspoon as Alix, and maybe Taylor Russell for Emira? Anyway… I can’t be the only one thinking it would be an amazing TV series, right!?!?!

In case anyone missed my earlier enthusiasm about reading and reviewing a book that was on my own personal TBR pile – I purchased my copy of Such a fun age by Kiley Reid and it was a GOOD life decision.

Good luck keeping up with the reviews Jules! I used to review everything I read but now I’m just playing catch up with ARCs. Maybe someday I will get back to doing them all since I know I like seeing what others think whether it’s been published or not.🙂

Excellent review, Jules💜 FYI, it’s been optioned for adaptation into a movie. There’s also talk about a series, too, but I don’t know the current status since all that happened prior to the pandemic.

Wasn’t for me. I felt the writing was on the juvenile side. Felt like it needed better editing. I guess we each read books and find something different
